Once again it is time for us all to tip our hats and give a moment of thanks to our Founding Fathers who have given us what we call “FREEDOM” today. It was exactly 234 years ago that the dotted line on the Declaration of Independence was signed and made official. After we give out thanks, IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE!!!!! So, pull out the fireworks, fire up the grills, and take the time to enjoy your friends and family.
If you are interested in going out this Fourth of July weekend, Myrtle Beach has so much to offer. Fireworks will be booming all across the Grand Strand this weekend!! Some of the biggest and most magnificent shows will be at Broadway at the Beach, 2nd Avenue Pier, and the Cherry Grove Fishing Pier.
Or you might decide to head on down to the Market Common on Saturday for some fun at the Italian Festival, followed by an outstanding fireworks display!! There will be all sorts of music, crafts, and food to enjoy! Murrells Inlet is hosting the annual 4th of July Boat Parade!!! With over 125 boats, the boat parade is one of the most fun and inexpensive ways to celebrate. There are sure to be tons of food, live entertainment, and much, much more!

Even though the media is constantly reporting that we are in a financial crisis and the housing market is down, Myrtle Beach numbers prove otherwise. We wanted to bring you up to date for April 2010, on Horry and Georgetown County as reported through the CCAR MLS as of May 19, 2010.

The percentage of U.S. home sellers cutting their asking price declined again in March, and home owners made smaller reductions in prices, according to a report by real estate website Zillow.com.
According to the Associated Press, Sales of new homes took the biggest monthly jump in 47 years in March while orders for most large manufactured products rose by the largest amount since the recession started. New home sales rose 27% nationally in March, bouncing off February’s record low the Commerce Department said Friday. We feel that with the weather finally changing from the harsh Winter, we will see a great improvement this Spring/Summer season. We are already seeing a great improvement in our sales here at the Beach as you can see from our March, 2010, Sold activity in Horry and Georgetown County as reported through the CCAR MLS as of April 18, 2010. The tax credit has some impact on our sales but not as much as in other areas of the country. The biggest increase in March was an astounding increase over the same period a year ago. With prices low and interest rates at an all time low, Now is a Great Time to Buy!

Fannie Mae Chief Economist Doug Duncan points to evidence that a recovery is on its way, including an increase in consumer spending, an improving service sector, and the likelihood that employers will begin hiring soon.”More favorable financial conditions overall keep us optimistic that we are moving forward with the recovery, albeit at a lower trajectory than previously forecast,” Duncan said in a statement.* What Fannie Mae has stated, and looking at the February numbers you can see Real Estate is looking up in Myrtle Beach!!

To all you movers and shakers out there, did you know that this past week, the 27th National Shag Dance Competitions has been taking place at The Spanish Galleon. This annual event is holding its competition for the first time in its new location in North Myrtle Beach, after the close of its previous home at Studebaker’s Night Club. The competition started at Studebaker’s in 1984 and while many shaggers are going to miss the previous location they are happy to see it move to the north end, where shagging is a daily occurrence. The shag competition is set to wrap up today but don’t worry Shagging on the Strand’s Spring Safari event is right around the corner. Starting April 17th and running through the 27th. This event is deemed the biggest adult party on the east coast. Many events and activities are planned, including “tea parties” in the local lounges that will feature popular bands that play the crowd favorites. Shag dance instructors will be offering classes so those of you who want to learn this popular dance come on out and join in the festivities. Instructors will also be offering lessons to those a little more experienced but wanting to improve their shagging skills. Mark this on the calendars as this event is sure to be a shaggin’ good time!
Canadian-American days are also here. Myrtle Beach will play host to the 49th Annual Canadian-American Days Festival this weekend, March 13th-21st. The festival will include a variety of activities including a series of concerts, sporting events, beach activities and much more.
With all of these festivals and events many people will be traveling to the beach to enjoy all the Grand Stand has to offer. Last month proved to be a good month according to the Commerce Department which reported that consumer sales rose .3% in February. This rise comes in spite of the uncommon winter weather felt by the Southeast. We at SC Beach Real Estate are feeling this upturn in the Economy as well. Real estate showings have been steady and we are keeping busy. We are still in a buyer’s market!!! So if you need to sell, now is a great time to list, if the price is right. It is definitely a great time to purchase.
Don’t forget to set your clocks forward Sunday March 14th at 2:00 am for Daylight Saving Time. While this may be upsetting to some as we are essentially losing an hour of sleep, look at the bright side, we are gaining an hour of daylight! This means beach and bathing suit season is right around the corner and if the past few days of beautiful blue skies and warm weather are any hint of what is to come we are in for a gorgeous summer.

Plus, the percentage of mortgages 30 days past due eased from the third quarter to the fourth, a concrete sign of a “beginning of the end” of an unprecedented wave of mortgage delinquencies that began in early 2007, MBA Chief Economist Jay Brinkmann said.
